The play “The Ten Commandments Reloaded” ran for 6 nights (13-18th March) to great response from audiences that were taken on a roller-coaster of exposure to the combined skills of 6 actors undertaking 30 parts in the course of one hour. The production was a great success both dramatically and financially and augurs well for future play-writing initiatives from the Rathmines Writers Workshop.

Is there a contradiction between being “an artist” and having an effective and successful  approach to business? Equally, can business activities be genuinely creative?  And what about that word “genuine”? Can an “artist” (or anyone else, for that matter) conduct their business in a successful manner - and still remain “genuine”?

The Centre strongly believes that business and creativity should be mutually supportive and encourages artists and other creative people (that means everyone…) to develop the skills that can help\them to get on in life and to earn a good living from whatever they do - whilst still maintaining their personal integrity.

Networking - ie meeting people in circumstances that offer unpredictable but real opportunities for productive business collaboration– provides an opportunity and a challenge to most people who are interested in working with others for mutual benefit. The opportunity is to find a kindred spirit or even a useful contact. The challenge is to be confident at asking the right questions and giving the right answers. Lack of confidence is the greatest stumbling block for most people involved in networking.

If you think you are in this category (and the vast majority of people are - probably 99% - so don’t feel lonely) come along to the next meeting of the Professional Speakers Association on the topic of  “Growing Together - How to Develop your Business Network” from 9.30 to 1pm on Sat 21st Jan 2006 at the Guinness Storehouse off Thomas Street, Dublin.  Three brilliant speakers will provide a morning of insights, inspiration and information that will help you to enjoy this challenging activity in ways you never thought possible.  Click on the topic above for further information.

Another highly successful meeting of the Ireland Chapter of the Professional Speakers Association is planned for Saturday morning 10th Dec 2005 at the Guinness Storehouse. The title of the 9.30 to 1pm workshop is “The Speaker’s Challenge: Entertain or Die”. It will feature two brilliantly entertaining speakers -  Steve Head fresh from the main platform at the PSA’s Brighton Convention and our own John Lynn, from almost every platform in Ireland’s stand-up comic circuit. An optional Festive Season lunch provides an excellent opportunity for further fun, information and frivolity - or maybe just fun and frivolity.

Mon 14th Nov 2005

For those of you interested in adding a bit of creative zest and energy to your talks and presentations (eg when you make your acceptance speech for the Nobel Prize for Literature, or whatever…) next Saturday 19th Nov 9.30 to 1pm could be a turning point for you. The Ireland Chapter of the Professional Speakers Association is hosting a powerful morning at the Montrose Hotel, entitled:  “Expertise + Eloquence = IMPACT!!” - click on the title to download a pdf flyer. Rody Ryan is currently Secretary of the Ireland Chapter of the PSA and will be presenting the highly successful talk he delivered to the Annual Convention of the PSA in Brighton, England in October.

Sat 5th Nov 2005

An exciting week for the Centre. Rody Ryan spoke at the Annual Convention of the Professional Speakers Association in Brighton, England last weekend. He gave a workshop entitled “Going for Gold! - Mastering the Eight Core Competencies of a Professional Speaker”. The workshop was very well received. The entire Convention provided ample opportunities to explore issues of creativity with like-minded colleagues.

This week also saw the formal start of the newly devised “Journey into Creativity” programme - it was delayed for a week to facilitate a number of participants.  We wish all the participants well as they set off to visit the Islands, defeat the Monsters and retrieve the Treasure…..

Sat 8th Oct 2005

Details of our next Creativity Programme “Journey into Creativity” are now available under Programmes.  This is an exciting new approach, with readings, exercises and activities based on the needs of the group rather than the chapters of a specific book.  The Journey starts on 26th October and runs on Wednesday evenings from7.45 to 9.45 for 8 weeks until 14th December

Sun 25th Sept 2005

Keep an eye on the site for an up-to-the-minute interview with Maggie Keane as she prepares to release her next CD “Touch the Sky” and give the world another taste of that funky spirituality that makes her music sound so special….

Sun 18th Sept 2005

Well, it’s been a while…. Summer intervened and the Centre moved to Romania, Andalucia in the south of Spain and ended up in London earlier this month. Plans are unfolding for a new 8-week Creativity Programme before Christmas. This is another example of “creativity within creativity” - the programme will draw on a wide range of resources and ideas, and will evolve around the specific needs of the participants.  Details to be published shortly.

Sat 21st May 2005

Just began to\populate the Activity List page. It’s exciting to see just how much creative talent there is all around us. The Centre plans to promote ongoing and once-off creative activities and events as they come to our attention.  As with any creative venture, the big idea has been to get the website started.

Tues 16th May 2005

Last night saw the conclusion of the creativity Programme run by the Centre since February 7th 2005. As on previous similar occasions, this was an opportunity to recognise the growth and development each participant had experienced in the course of the programme and to acknowledge their individual contributions to the group.  The next Programme is still under consideration. It may be a 4-5 week workshop which would be deliberately allowed to evolve around the needs and preferences of the participants. Keep checking the site for further details.

Today we’ve added a bit more information to the “About Us” page.

Also added some birdsong recorded on Sunday evening on Three Rock Mountain outside Dublin. Let us know if you would like more of this  - or less. We can always change it.

Hey, this is exciting. I hope we can keep adding elements of interest and surprise.

Sat 14th May 2005

Word of the Centre is spreading out. Over the next few weeks we hope to populate the site with information and insights related to the wonderful range of activity that falls under the heading of creative development. We’ll probably do a bit of creative development to the site itself as we go forward. Join us for the journey.

Wed 11th May 2005

The centreforcreativedevelopment.com site was launched today. Very early stages. Very few links until this is arranged with the parties concerned. The entire site is subject to total and absolute change at any time. More likely to\be partial and relative change for the time being. Why not be part of that change? This site could contain a webpage for whatever creative activity you are involved in, or could link to your site if you have one. It could allow people to know who you are, what you do, maybe what you look like, maybe maybe what you sound like. But also to know when your next big event is taking place.

The structure and layout of the site is likely to change as more information is added. For the moment the focus will be on creative individuals, organisations and activities known to the Centre. Once these are linked in, the site will evolve in whatever way it needs to.  It may remain as a channel of communication for the Society of Like-Minded People—or it may e-x-p-a-n-d to become the world’s number 1 centre for creative development and the only place for different-minded people to\look to find out about each other and enjoy. Time will tell.
