Mai Ryan - portraits

Portraits are done over a number of sittings. Initially the focus is on sketches and/or photographs—it’s a “getting acquainted” exercise. The painting stage grows out of these initial studies. There can be more than one work on the go at the same time. There is an assessment by the artist as to whether the piece is fit to be released into the world.
